Egypt's Paralympians were welcomed by hundreds of people upon arriving at Cairo airport on Monday evening. They were greeted by many youths and political figures, including members of the influential April 6 Youth Movement and the newly-established liberal party Al-Dostour. Egyptian sports minister El-Amry Farouk, who was at the airport, heaped praise upon the Paralympians after they garnered 15 medals as Egypt finished 28th in the medal standings out of 74 countries that participated. “President Mohamed Morsi will receive the heroes within days. We've increased the rewards by 130 per cent. The gold medalists will receive LE300,000 and the silver medalists will receive LE180,000,” Farouk was quoted as saying by state news agency MENA. Egypt won four gold, four silver and seven bronze medals in the London Games.
