Open-mic nights by Mashrou' El-Mareekh to showcase new talent Darb 1817 cultural centre will host Mashrou' El-Mareekh - an open platform for artistic expression - on the second Friday of every month
Mashrou' El-Mareekh collaborates with Darb 1718 to set a stage for open-mic performances on the second Friday of every month, kicking off this Friday, 14 September. Founded by young artist and culture advocate Mariam El-Quessny, Mashrou' El Mareekh (Mars Project) tours Egyptian cities, promoting cultural development and expression by providing a platform for a wide range of artistic performances, including music, poetry and dance recitals. Previously named Project Yourself, the initiative aims to reach out to the public and showcase a range of talent that is truly representative of the diversity of Egyptian culture. The project, which brought fresh talent to Alexandria, El-Minya, Bahariya, and Mansoura as well as the capital, sponsors an experimental cultural movement across Egypt, renegotiating boundaries between art and public spaces. Programme: 7pm, Friday, 14 September Darb 1718, Qasr Al-Shamee Street, Al-Fakhareen (behind the Hanging Church and the Amr Mosque), Old Cairo http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/52459.aspx
