Baroque Violin Concerti at Goethe Institute in Alexandria
On Sunday 16 September, Goethe Institute in Alexandria invites audiences to a violin concerti of Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann and van Wassenaer

Soloists from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra - Shady Abdelsalam, Michael Mamdouh, Mohamed Barakat, Abdelraouf Ahmed and Raef Emil - will perform a number of Baroque concerti composed by Johann Sebastien Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann, and Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer.
The concert wll take place at the Goethe Institute in Alexandria.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685– 1750) was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist and violist. A universal musician with an everlasting appeal, Bach is known for his extraordinary contrapuntal skill and a mastery of picturesque and passionate expressons.
Antonio Vivaldi (1675 - 1741) was an Italian composer and violinist. Bach admired him and transcribed some of his concertos. Vivaldi is known mainly for composing instrumental concertos, especialy for the violin, as well as sacred choral works and operas. His concerti The Four Seasons have become particularily popular and are among the favourite classical music compositions of many listeners until today.
Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 – 1767) was a German composer and multi-instrumentalist. He was one of the most profilic composers in history. His oeuvre comprises more than 3000 pieces and his music was among the driving forces behind the late Baroque and the early Classical styles.
Unico Wilhelm van Wassenae (1692 – 1766) was a Dutch diplomat and composer. Among his most important surviving compositions are the Concerti Armonici, which were, until 1980, wrongly attributed to the Italian composer Pergolesi and Carlo Ricciotti.
