Newly-elected Prime Minister Hisham Qandil started his official meeting with members of the new cabinet on Wednesday morning, before they take their oath before the president on Thursday. Head of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) Hussein Tantawi is to keep him post of minister of defence in the new cabinet, according to Ahram Arabic. Tantawi has served as defence minister since 1991, under seven different governments. In a constitutional addendum issued by the SCAF on 17 June, Article 52 stipulates that the head of the military councilwill remain minister of defence until a new constitution is drafted. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Hisham Qandil met with president Mohamed Morsi to hand in a list of names for the new cabinet for his approval.
