Zamalek squad for Ahly match includes injured players, empty spots for youngsters
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 07 - 2012

Injured Soliman and Zaki are listed but doubtful, still hoping El-Shennawy and Gaber will be released from Olympic training camp for Zamalek's CAF match with Ahly on Sunday
Zamalek defender Salah Soliman sustained a minor injury during the 1-0 friendly win over Arab Contractors Tuesday afternoon, but he has still been named in the final squad for the Ahly match on Sunday.
“Soliman is suffering a minor leg injury after a dangerous tackle from Mousa Kabiro. He is undergoing medical examinations and will be rehabbed before Ahly's match,” the Cairo giant's official website stated.
After losing 2-1 to Ghana's Chelsea in the first round of Group B, Zamalek are finalising their preparations for the second round of the CAF Champions League against archrivals Ahly, who beat DR Congo's TP Mazembe 3-2 away.
Zamalek manager Hassan Shehata is still hoping Egypt's Olympic coach Hany Ramzy will release goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy and striker Omar Gaber to play the match, leaving them with two empty spots in the squad.
Ramzy announced Tuesday that he will not release the players as he is preparing for the 2012 London Olympics.
Forward Amr Zaki, who is suffering a knee injury and undergoing a rehabilitation programme, is also named in Shehata's squad.
The Cairo derby will be played at the Military Academy Stadium behind closed doors due to lingering security concerns in Egypt.
Zamalek have invited President Mohamed Morsi and Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi to watch the decisive game in an effort to resume domestic football competitions, which have been suspended since the Port Said tragedy in February.
Zamalek's 20-man squad for the last training camp before Ahly match:
Goalkeepers:Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed and Mahmoud Abdel-Rehim ‘Gennesh'
Defenders:Mahmoud Fathallah, Hamada Tolba, Salah Soliman, Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, Ahmed Samir and Sabry Rahil
Midfielder:Ibrahim Salah, Alexis Mendomo, Nour El-Sayed, Ahmed Tawfik, Islam Awad, Mohamed Ibrahim, Ahmed Hassan, Hazem Emam and Said Mohamed “Otta”
Strikers:Ahmed Gaafar, Abdoulaye Cisse and Amr Zaki
