Mubarak sons kept from visiting unconscious father

Sons of ailing toppled president, Alaa and Gamal, are prohibited from accompanying their father to Maadi Military Hospital, transferred by Tora Prison Hospital management to prison facility

Tora Prison management refused to allow Hosni Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, to accompany him to Maadi Military Hospital when he reportedly slipped into a coma, Al-Ahram's Arabic language news website reported, quoting an unnamed security source.
The source stated that both sons were transferred from Tora Prison Hospital back to a prison facility after the toppled president was hospitalised, because "there was no reason for them to remain in the hospital."
Gamal, the younger son and the once heir apparent of his father, was furious over his father's deteriorating condition. The source stated: "He said 'I warned before of his health deterioration if he remains in Tora Prison.' He got even more infuriated after he was transferred to a prison facility."
Alaa and Gamal are currently held in Tora Prison on charges of stock market related corruption.
Al-Arabia TV earlier reported that Mubarak's wife, Suzanne Thabet, had arrived at the Maadi Hospital after his admission.
Conflicting reports over Mubarak's heath circulated in Egyptian and international media late Tuesday.
Shortly after reporting that Mubarak's heart had stopped and paramedics resuscitated him, state news agency MENA said he was transferred from Tora Prison Hospital to Cairo's Maadi Military Hospital after his condition further deteriorated. MENA later reported that the ousted leader was clinically dead.
However, an informed source, who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity, denied to Ahram Online Tuesday night that Mubarak was clinically dead, saying the overthrown strongman was still "technically alive."
Military officials also denied MENA's report, telling Reuters that Mubarak was put on life sustaining equipment in hospital, but denied he was clinically dead.
The confusion over Mubarak's health came as his long-time opponents in the Muslim Brotherhood, represented by candidate Mohamed Morsi, claim victory over the imprisoned president's last premier and fellow military man, Ahmed Shafiq, in a presidential election runoffs held at the weekend.
Mubarak was inaugurated in October 1981 following the assassination of his predecessor Anwar El-Sadat at the hands of militant Islamists during a parade to commemorate the October War. Sadat was rushed to the same Maadi hospital, where he died later that day.
Mubarak, 84, was transferred to Tora Prison Hospital on 2 June after being found guilty of participating in the crime of killing protesters along with his ex-interior minister during last year's uprising, which toppled him on 11 February 2011.
Reports had been widely circulated of Mubarak's deteriorating health over the past year. During his trial, the ousted dictator was repeatedly wheeled into court on a hospital stretcher. After his incarceration in Tora Prison, Mubarak's legal team sought to transfer him to a better medical facility on grounds of ailing health.
