Egyptian speaker El-Katatni to make 'important' statement Saturday Statement on recent political developments to be made Saturday by parliamentary speaker and senior Muslim Brother, Mohamed Saad El-Katatni
Speaker of parliament and senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), Mohamed Saad El-Katatni, will be making an "important" statement on recent political developments in the country on Saturday at 11am. The news was announced via the FJP's official Twitter account. The Muslim Brotherhood announced Thursday that it would participate in Friday's protests to demand a retrial in the case of former president Hosni Mubarak and his senior officials, and the implementation of the Disenfranchisement Law which would eliminate Mubarak's last prime minister and presidential runoff contender Ahmed Shafiq from the presidential elections. Meanwhile, a tentative multi-party agreement was agreed Thursday regarding the membership criteria of the assembly tasked with drafting the country's first post-revolution constitution. Liberal and leftist members withdrew from the constitution-drafting assembly in March in objection to the large proportion of Islamist figures it contained. In April, Egypt's Supreme Administrative Court suspended the assembly because it had violated last year's constitutional declaration.
