Egyptian swimmers Farida Osman and Ali Khalafallah ended their participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after failing to reach the semifinals of the 50m freestyle on Friday while Marwan El-Kamash missed out on participating in the 1500m freestyle.
The 25-year-old Khalafallah finished 4th in Heat 7 with 22.22 seconds but was eliminated from the men's 50 metres freestyle event after ending up in 24th position out of 73 contestants.
Meanwhile, Farida Osman, 26, finished 2nd in Heat 8 with 25.13 seconds but was eliminated from the Women's 50 metres freestyle event after ending up in 24th position out of 83 contestants.
Meanwhile, swimmer Marwan El-Kamash didn't start in Heat 1 of the Men's 1500 metres freestyle event due to a knee injury, according to the Egyptian Media Centre in Tokyo.
"El-Kamash suffered from a knee problem before the start of the Men's 1500 metres freestyle event and the technical staff decided not take part in the race," read a statement by the centre.
Swimmer Youssef Ramadan finished 8th of his heat in the Men's 100m butterfly semi-finals, with a time of 52.27 seconds.
The 19-year-old came 1.96 seconds behind winner Kristof Milak of Hungary, who set a new Olympic record with 50.31 seconds.
Ramadan broke his own record, 51.83 seconds, while participating in the Tokyo Games on Thursday after finishing 2nd in Heat 5 of the event in 51.67 seconds.
Ramadan, who made his first appearance in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is the first Egyptian male swimmer to qualify for the semifinals and the second after Farida Osman, who made it to the Women's 100m Butterfly category in the 2016 Rio games.
