President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Wednesday Egypt's full support for the political path of Lebanese Prime Minister Designate Saad Al-Hariri to restore stability in Lebanon and deal with the current challenges.
El-Sisi's remarks came during his meeting with Hariri, which witnessed the attendance of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel, a statement by the presidency said.
Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady stated that El-Sisi also expressed Egypt's support for Al-Hariri's efforts to form a government, highlighting the importance of the concerted efforts of all to settle any differences in this context to get Lebanon out of the situation it is currently suffering from by upholding Lebanon's national interest.
This, Rady adds, aims to help preserve the capabilities of the brotherly Lebanese people and their unity.
From his side, Al-Hariri hailed Egypt's tireless and sincere efforts to mobilise international support for Lebanon at various levels in light of the continuing difficult challenges facing the Lebanese people, especially at the political and economic levels, the presidential statement said.
Al-Hariri moreover expressed his people's appreciation for the strong historical relations between the two brotherly countries, which are based on foundations of solidarity and brotherhood, and also for Egypt's vital role in maintaining stability in Lebanon and the Arab region as a whole, the statement said.
Rady pointed out that both parties reviewed during their meeting the Lebanese political scene, in addition to means of strengthening the existing bilateral cooperation frameworks between the two brotherly countries, as well as discussing the most prominent regional developments.
Earlier in the day, according to a separate statement by the foreign ministry, Shoukry received Al-Hariri at the Tahrir Palace and emphasised Egypt's support for brotherly Lebanon, stressing the need for all Lebanese parties to give priority to the supreme interest of Lebanon, free of any narrow interests.
