Egypt's Red Crescent visits Gaza to determine urgent aid for Palestinians
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 05 - 2021

A delegation from Egypt's Red Crescent (ERC) visited the Gaza Strip on Thursday to determine the aid supplies the Palestinians need after the damage incurred as a result of the 11-day Israeli aggression on the Strip.
The ERC delegation travelled to Gaza on a two-day visit meant to provide support and aid to Palestinians, an ERC statement read.
The visit aims to bolster cooperation and coordination through field visits to determine Palestinians' needs and affirm Egypt's leading role in supporting humanitarian efforts and assistance offered to the Palestinians.
The delegation met with the Palestinian health ministry representative and toured some hospitals that have received the injured to stand on their health conditions and needed medical supplies.
The statement said the ERC will deliver a third batch of medical and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in the coming days.
The delegation, headed by the Executive Director of the ERC Ramy El-Nazer, met with the head of the Palestine Red Crescent Society Younis Al-Khatib to discuss joint cooperation to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinians.
The 11-day war was deemed the most violent since 2014 as Israel upped its aggression on Gaza with artillery and air strikes in response to rocket attacks on Israeli towns from the Strip, which is controlled by Hamas.
At least 254 people were killed in Gaza with over 1,900 wounded, according to Palestinian health authorities.
Egypt sent tons of medical and humanitarian aid to Gaza to help Palestinians deal with the aftermath of Israel's recent deadly offensive on the Strip.
It continues to open its Rafah crossing to allow stranded Palestinians and humanitarian cases on both sides to cross the border terminal.
Medical and administrative teams are stationed at the terminal to facilitate the passage of the injured and their escorts to hospitals.
