SCAF lifts curfew around defense ministry in Abbasiya Ruling military council lifts nighttime curfew five days after violent clashes outside defense ministry headquarters in Abbasiya
Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) on Wednesday lifted its curfew in the area around defence ministry headquarters – in effect for the last five days – in Cairo's eastern Abbasiya district, a military source told Egypt's official news agency. The curfew, from 11pm to 7am, was first imposed in Abbasiya on Friday following violent clashes outside the ministry between protesters and military police, which left two dead – including one soldier – and 373 injured. Meanwhile, military prosecutors have ordered the continued detention of 300 protesters arrested on Friday following the clashes. On Wednesday, a number of activists protested in front of military prosecution headquarters to chant against military rule and demand the release of the detainees.
