Nazli Madkour's exhibition of paintings at Picasso is a must see
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 05 - 2021

Picasso gallery presents two exhibitions of painting by Suzanne Saad and Nazli Madkour, titled, respectively "What lies behind" and "Reflections"
On "Reflections", Madkour says, "For more than a year, we have all been trying to work out the new normal while we mourn an 'earlier time'. We have faced - and we are still in this mood - an unusual and confusing situation that pushes us to search for a safe place to go in the depths of our thoughts and imaginations, where past, present and future are mixed in a vague, hazy space.
"Wrapped in an anxious hum, the works making up my current exhibition are a search for meaning through introspection attempting to re-evaluate and visualize my inner world. My paintings began to listen to whispers from the past and receive glimpses of an unknown future in agony and persistence..."
Madkour has given numerous solo exhibitions in Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Munich and the Gulf as well as Cairo and Alexandria. She also compiled the book, Egyptian Women and Artistic Creativity published in Arabic in 1989, and in English under the title Women and Art in Egypt in 1993.
The exhibition continues until 11 June.
