Egypt to host Mozambique World Cup match in Alexandria, without fans Security authorities insist on keeping fans out of matches until violence settles in Egypt, however, agree to host the Mozambique World Cup match on Egyptian soil
Egypt interior ministry agreed Wednesday to hold the Egypt-Mozambique qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria. The match, scheduled for June, will be played behind closed doors, however, according to the letter sent by the interior ministry to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA). There have been serious concerns about violence in stadiums since February's deadly Port Said disaster, which left more than 70 people dead and over 300 injured and resulted in the suspension of all domestic Egyptian football activities. Egyptian teams Ahly, Zamalek and ENPII have been playing their home games in the African clubs' competitions behind closed doors since the Port Said disaster. The ministry's letter today explained that they won't allow fans to attend the matches because of the ongoing instability in Egypt. The seven-time Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) champions, under the guidance of American coach Bob Bradley, are scheduled to play the Central African Republic in CAN 2013 qualifiers in June. They will kick off their Brazil 2014 World Cup campaign in the same month, paired with Guinea, Zimbabwe and Mozambique in Group G.
