Sisi calls for updating database of Egypt's Decent Life initiative, double medical services in villages
Published in Ahram Online on 07 - 03 - 2021

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi instructed the government to update the database of the Decent Life Initiative, a national plan underway in hundreds of villages nationwide which aims to develop the countryside.
El-Sisi highlighted the significance of bettering all aspects of the living standards and services for Egyptian villagers who constitute around half of the country's population.
The directives to update the database aim to provide the concerned bodies with accurate and updated data about all aspects and details of the project to reinforce its success factors, read a presidential statement.
The president's directives came in a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Health Minister Hala Zayed, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy, and Housing Minister Assem El-Gazzar.
The president also called for doubling the number of medical convoys, ambulances, and mobile clinics dispatched to villages as part of the Decent life Initiative, in order to increase medical services offered to citizens in villages.
He instructed the government to develop all targeted health units, establish new hospitals, and provide them with modern medical equipment.
During the meeting, plans to develop all rural areas countrywide were reviewed, especially those related to the implementation of a Universal Health Insurance System in the countryside.
The statement added that the president was posted on the efforts exerted by municipal authorities related to providing clean drinking water and sanitation services for villages.
The Decent Life Initiative, launched by El-Sisi in early 2019, aims to provide better living conditions for the neediest rural villages in Egypt.
The project's general plans will be implemented over the course of three stages.
The initiative aims to improve the standard of living for citizens; reducing poverty rates; develop infrastructure; and provide basic services, especially in education, housing, electricity, sanitation, drinking water, and natural gas.
