Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected on Friday the Integrated Transport Centre project which aims to reduce traffic congestion inside the capital.
The project is located north of the Suez Road intersection with the Ring Road and opposite to Cairo International Airport.
The 300 feddan centre includes an international bus station, a transport terminal between governorates, a mall, an administrative complex, recreational areas and restaurants, a hotel and the workshops of Cairo Metro's fourth line.
The project's geographical location is characterised by being in the centre of link axes connecting main roads nationwide, with its proximity to Cairo airport allowing for the facilitated mobility of travelers domestically and internationally.
It will also help lower traffic congestion inside the capital, ease and save transport time as well as reduce fuel consumption rates while protecting the environment.
According to a statement by the presidency spokesperson, El-Sisi ordered that the centre includes all state-of-art services with a large occupational capacity to complement the development implemented in nearby road networks in order to accommodate traffic flow from and to the centre.
The Suez Road has been upgraded to accommodate nine lanes in each direction, the statement said, with the development of a road supporting the Ring Road with eight lanes in each direction and the construction of a new road to link the Ring Road, Suez Road and Mohamed Naguib Axis.
El-Sisi also inspected development projects of eastern Cairo's roads and axes, including those connecting Nasr City with Suez Road and Ring Road, as well as roads and bridges in the area.
The projects implemented in eastern Cairo's Nasr City aim to facilitate the movement of citizens and reduce traffic congestion, especially in Nasr City's Eighth district area.
El-Sisi ordered an acceleration of implementation rates to reduce the traffic congestion on the main streets, ease the movement of citizens and reduce fuel consumption.
He also gave directives to ensure close coordination between all state bodies regarding renewing the facilities within the scope of these projects, which includes drainage systems and sanitation networks.
New systems and networks shall be installed instead of the old ones, in accordance to the highest quality standards to serve the residents of those areas, the statement added.
