Ahly stroll to Champions League group stage with 4-0 win over Niger's Sonidep

Title holders Ahly strolled into the African Champions League group stage with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Niger's Sonidep to complete a 5-0 aggregate win on Tuesday.
Having secured a 1-0 first-leg advantage on the road, it only took Ahly 13 minutes to extend their aggregate lead when new arrival Taher Mohamed Taher opened his account with a simple finish after a superb long pass from veteran winger Walid Soliman.
Things went from bad to worse for Sonidep when goalkeeper Carlos Djouram received a straight red card three minutes later for tripping lone striker Ahmed Rayyan in a one-on-one situation.
Soliman turned from provider to scorer to kill off Sonidep's hopes on 37 minutes, drilling home a low shot following a pull-back from in-form Tunisian left back Ali Maaloul.
Moroccan defender Badr Benoun also scored his first goal for Ahly when he converted a penalty on 67 minutes, awarded for a clumsy foul by the substitute keeper.
Substitute Mahmoud Kahraba completed the rout in stoppage time to atone for missing some easy chances as Ahly continued their bid for a record-extending 10th Champions League crown.
The group stage draw for Africa's blue-riband club competition will take place on Friday.
