Schools in four Egyptian governorates cancelled due to turbulent weather
Published in Ahram Online on 08 - 11 - 2020

Classes in schools and education institutes in four Egyptian governorates were suspended on Sunday due to extreme weather conditions and heavy rains that have been showering several parts of the country over the past 48 hours.
School activities in Alexandria, Beheira, Damietta and Matrouh were cancelled on Sunday as a safeguard against the unstable weather, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy said in a statement.
Classes and lectures in Alexandria's schools and universities have been suspended for the second day in a row owing to the weather.
Earlier this week, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) urged citizens to be extra careful as several parts of the country will see a multi-day wave of unstable weather starting Sunday.
The EMA stated the north coast, North Sinai, and the Nile Delta are set to witness rainfall starting Sunday through Wednesday.
Minister Shaarawy instructed all of Egypt's governors to be on "maximum alert" in preparation for the turbulent weather, particularly in the coastal areas and the governorates mentioned above.
He called for providing more water vacuum trucks in the streets to drain the rainwater and help smooth the movement of vehicles as well as the voting process in the second phase of the country's parliament elections, which are scheduled to end at 9pm local time.
