Armed forces: Marrying a foreigner does not exempt Egyptian men from military service There is no exemption from military service through marriage, says head of Conscription Department
General Staff Hussein Kamel, director of the Conscription and Mobilisation Department, announced in a press conference Sunday that marrying a foreigner does not exempt Egyptian men from military service. Kamel underlined that Egyptian men are only exempted if they obtain foreign nationality and get permission from the minister of defence before the age of 30. In Egypt, military service is mandatory for most men, except those who are only the only male child, sole supporters of their family and those who have health issues.
