Egypt's Azhar Grand Imam, sheikh Ahmed Tayyeb has stressed the importance of abiding by all medical and regulatory instructions prescribed by official concerned bodies to confront the coronavirus pandemic, including suspending congregation prayers at mosques and performing them at homes alone, exercising social distancing, staying at homes, and taking care of Personal hygiene. Anyone who ignores these instructions is committing sins, Al-Tayyeb stressed in a televised word on Sunday.
He added that spreading rumours about coronavirus to intimidate people and undermine their confidence in the state's measures to cope with this crisis is religiously prohibited.
"My advice to tackle this affliction is to make use of all available medical, preventive and scientific means... in addition to maximizing philanthropic acts," he added.
The Grand imam expressed his solidarity with all countries hit with the quick-growing virus, stressing his support to lending a hand to needy people who have been affected by the pandemic at any land across the world.
He also expressed his support to all people infected with coronavirus nationwide and worldwide, wishing them all a speedy recovery.
Al-Tayyeb praised all health sector workers for the sacrifices they make saying "those who jeopardize their lives to confront the deadly illness."
The virus claimed thousands of lives around the world since it first surfaced in the chinese city of Wuhan.
Egypt has so far detected 609 coronavirus cases including 40 fatalities.
