Future of Pyramids coach Desabre thrown into doubt after another league loss
Published in Ahram Online on 17 - 12 - 2019

The future of Pyramids FC coach Sebastien Desabre is uncertain after the ambitious outfit further fell behind in the title race with another loss in the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday.
Pyramids conceded a stoppage-time goal to slump to a 3-2 defeat by Gouna in a thrilling game, almost a week after they were outplayed by Zamalek in a 2-0 loss.
The big-spending club, which changed hands in the summer after Saudi owner Turki Al-Sheikh sold it to Emirati investor Salem Al-Shamsi, are hoping to improve on their third-place finish last season but they have stuttered in the early stages of this term.
They dropped to seventh in the table with only 12 points from eight games following the Gouna loss, with the club likely to lose patience with Desabre.
They appeared to issue a warning to the Frenchman after the defeat against Zamalek, with the club's football director saying performances were not up to expectations and that a meeting would be held with Desabre to discuss the poor results.
Pyramids have fared much better on their maiden appearance in an African competition, winning their first two games in the Confederation Cup group stage to sit joint top with compatriots Masry.
Desabre was brought in after he left Uganda by mutual consent in the summer, having helped them advance to the African Nations Cup round of 16 in Egypt.
But the squad he inherited appears weaker than last season's when Pyramids boasted the likes of Brazilian winger Keno and Syrian striker Omar Kharbin, Asian Footballer of the Year for 2017.
Both have departed and Pyramids made some low-profile signings in the close season, which did little to plug the gaps they left.
But with Pyramids seemingly not ready to accept any excuses, Desabre could be the latest managerial casualty in the Egyptian league following Gouna's Nebojsa Milosevic and Zamalek's Milutin "Micho" Sredojevic.
