Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will address on Thursday a session of the Arab Parliament to post Arab lawmakers on the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue. Shoukry's address comes days after a meeting between President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in the Russian city of Sochi on the sidelines of the Russian-African summit, as well as a call by the US for Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan to hold a three-way meeting to iron out differences on the controversial project. Shoukry and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed during a phone conversation a few days ago the developments of the thorny issue and the invitation extended by the US administration to Shoukry and his Ethiopian and Sudanese counterparts to meet in Washington to address the worries of all sides. The US top diplomat expressed the US administration's understanding of the importance of resolving the issue and the need to reach a just agreement that meets the three countries' interests.
