In Photos: Alexandria Film Festival kicks off 35th edition

The Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, under the direction of critic El-Amir Abaza, started its 35th edition on Tuesday at the Alexandria Opera House with the attendance of a number of Egyptian, Arab and European actors, filmmakers and critics.

During the 2019 edition, which has been named after famous actress Nabila Ebeid, many activities are being held alongside the screening of dozens of films competing in the five contests, with a number of filmmakers being honoured in addition to holding two filmmaking workshops and a photography exhibition.

Besides celebrating the works of late renowned Egyptian writer Ihsan Abdel-Quddous and directors Hassan al-Imam and Ezzedine Zulfaqar, among the honouree are also actor Mahmoud Kabil, director Mohamed Fadel, critic Ahmed Raafat Bahgat, Lebanese actor Rafik Ali Ahmed and Tunisian director Rachid Ferschio, who received the festival's medal.

Dozens of films from many countries are competing in the festival's various competitions, with Egyptian actor Mohie Ismail heading the Feature Film Competition jury while the Short and Documentary Feature Films Competition's jury is headed by director Adel Adib. Mohamed Bayoumi leads the judges of Short Egyptian Films, Lebleba leads the Noor El-Sherif Competition's jury, and Hassan Emad Makawi leads the judges of the Best Scenario contest.

With Spain as guest of honour, four Spanish films will be screened.
