Ahly continued their blistering start to the new season by crushing promoted Aswan 5-1 in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday to go top with a maximum nine points from their opening three games. Goals from Junior Ajayi, Hussein El-Shahat, Hamdi Fathi, Magdi Afsha and Ramadan Sobhi gave Ahly another impressive victory following their 4-0 win over El-Entag El-Harby in their previous match. Oumed Oukri netted a consolation for Aswan. In-form winger Sobhi took his tally to three league goals in as many games as Ahly maintained their irresistible form. Ahly, who are eyeing a fifth straight league crown, lie on top with nine points, three ahead of Zamalek and Pyramids who can go level with them if they win their respective matches. Nigerian Ajayi, the preferred choice upfront for new coach Rene Weiler, opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute when he bundled the ball home from close range after a free kick eluded a crowd of defenders and fell at his feet. Winger El-Shahat doubled the lead on 25 minutes on a second rebound after Ajayi's follow-up effort from a Hamdi Fathi shot was parried by the keeper into his path. Defensive midfielder Fathi headed home on 59 minutes to make it 3-0 and playmaker Afsha converted a penalty to further extend the gap and net his first goal after joining Ahly in the summer. Oukri scored for Aswan with a far-post effort but Sobhi added a fifth for Ahly at the other end after a brilliant individual effort, rounding his challenger on the edge of the area and beating the keeper at his near post with a low shot. Ahly have made it six wins out of six since Swiss boss Weiler took over. They next face Zamalek in an anticipated Cairo derby on 19 October.
