Egypt's Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and a number of cabinet ministers would be in parliament the following week to address MPs on the country's economic conditions and the strategy of fighting terrorism and hostile media campaigns trying to spread chaos in Egypt. Abdel-Aal said Egypt was facing a hostile media campaign targeting the nation and its progress. "This media campaign uses the tactic of spreading lies about the army, the political leadership and state authorities. Our goal is to tell the citizens the truth about this campaign," said Abdel-Aal said at the plenary session on Wednesday morning.
Abdel-Aal said Egypt was moving in the right direction. "It has achieved a successful economic programme, and it has the strongest army in the region, but the enemies of this country are trying in many ways to disrupt Egypt."
Abdel-Aal's statement came one day after MPs used parliament's opening sitting on Tuesday to launch a scathing attack against the government, accusing it of not doing enough to protect the poor from the vagaries of economic reform.
MPs focussed their attacks on Minister of Supply Ali Moselhi because of his decision to strip around two million citizens of ration cards and subsidised goods.
