Egypt's Sisi calls for continuation of Cairo's AU initiatives, activities
Published in Ahram Online on 06 - 08 - 2019

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called on Tuesday for providing an integrated future vision for the continuation of the Egyptian initiatives set since Egypt became Chairman of the African Union (AU).
This came during the president's meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and a host of state ministers, including the ministers electricity and renewable energy, finance, health and housing, trade and industry, agricultural and land reclamation.
The meeting took up the latest progress on the overall AU activities under Egypt's presidency of the African bloc, which was the culmination of Egypt's strenuous over recent years to cement its relations with all African countries, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Attaching special importance to the axes of the AU Agenda 2063 and Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development, Sisi directed the government to explore new horizons of cooperation with African nations and build bridges of communication with all African peoples, Rady noted.
The meeting also addressed the steps taken to implement Egypt's plan of action for taking over AU presidency, especially with regard to achieving economic integration after the enforcement of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) in May and the official launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area during the latest exceptional AU summit in Niamey, Niger.
It also tackled Egypt's efforts to support infrastructure projects in Africa, such as Cairo-Cape Town Highway as well as power and railway interconnection projects, which seek to boost continental integration, the spokesman said.
