Egypt's Sisi says economic growth in past decade not compatible with country's population surge
Published in Ahram Online on 31 - 07 - 2019

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said economic growth in the past decade has not been compatible with the country's population surge.
In statements during the seventh youth forum, El-Sisi spoke about the country's performance in executing the initiative Decent Life,, as well as working towards a powerful state.
"We need to work, there is no time for other things… a country like Egypt needs at least a budget of $1 trillion," El-Sisi said, stressing the importance of executing efforts towards a powerful state.
El-Sisi also spoke about building new cities without putting a strain on the country's budget, with current urban development projects meant to provide returns for the country.
"Had we proceeded with our old plans, the country would have ran itself straight into the ground back in 2016," El-Sisi said.
On the Decent Life initiative, El-Sisi said the country started work in the poorest villages.
The initiative was launched by the Egyptian President in early 2019 to provide better living conditions for those living in the lowest class nationwide.
El-Sisi spoke about the importance of solutions to treat conditions and increase economic stability.
"We speak about not leaving any house or road without development," he said.
The steps launched under the initiative include developing houses, improving infrastructure, and providing job opportunities for youths in villages, solidarity minister Ghada Wali said during the session on the campaign.
