Zambia braces for CAN final showdown Zambia coach, players redouble efforts to clinch CAN championship title in run-up to Sunday's final against Ivory Coast
After their 1-0 win over Ghana in African Cup of Nations (CAN) semi-finals on Wednesday, Zambia's players and coach have stepped up efforts to clinch the tournament title when they face Ivory Coast in the final game on Sunday. "This is the greatest moment a player can ever have – to play in the final," Zambia captain Christopher Katongo told reporters after the game. "We're going to the final without any pressure. We have to take this cup; this is an opportunity. It doesn't come every day," Katongo said. Zambia coach Herve Renard was full of praise for his players' performance, considering Wednesday's win over Ghana the most important match of his career. "It's amazing – they did something fantastic. But now they did something amazing to get a place in the final," Renard said. "We were lucky," the coach added. "Our goalkeeper saved us after a few minutes." "I called Emmanuel Mayuka to my room this morning and told him that he had played four very good games. I just wanted him to rest up a bit to be ready for the last 30 minutes,” Renard noted. "When you're a coach, sometimes you're right and sometimes you're wrong. This time, I was right." Zambia are slated to face Ivory Coast in the final game of the CAN 2012 on Sunday.
