Sundowns coach Mosimane praises 'great' Ahly ahead of Champions League game
Published in Ahram Online on 04 - 04 - 2019

Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane said on Thursday that there is a huge difference between his side and Ahly, stressing that his players are “small boys” compared to the Cairo Giants.
The South African side will host Ahly in the first leg of the Champions League quarters on Saturday before facing the Red Devils in the second leg in Suez one week later.
Ahly reached the quarters after leading their group D with 10 points, while the South African side finished second in their Group A behind leaders Wydad of Morocco.
"It's a big club, a very big club. It's bigger than Wydad. If you thought Wydad is big... it's bigger than Esperance. It's huge, team of the century," Mosimane told Kickoff on Thursday.
"They are the biggest team on the continent. Just look at the badge, just look at the stars. Then you realise that we are small boys, we have not done anything."
The 54-year-old, who helped Sundowns win the Champions League title in 2016 at the expense of Zamalek, highlighted the great financial capacities of the Cairo giants that solidify their position at the top of the continent.
"They make transfers of $6 million; can you believe that in Africa?”
"We sell players for less than that to Europe. They got Ramadan Sobhi from the English Premier League [Huddersfield], they brought him back. I mean how much do they need to pay?" he added.
Ahly strengthened their squad in the winter transfer window with the signing of seven new players including Hussein El-Shahat from UAE side Al-Ain for a reported fee of $5.5 million.
The eight-time African champions are looking for their ninth champions league title this term, they reached the final in the past two editions but lost to Wydad de Casablanca and Esperance de Tunis respectively.
