A Cairo criminal court has ordered the conditional release of satirist and video blogger Shady Abu Zeid after nine months in pre-trial detention, his lawyer said on Sunday. Abu Zeid was arrested in May 2018 over charges including spearing fake news and joining a terrorist organisation. The court has "replaced [his] pre-trial detention with precautionary measures," defense lawyer Mokhtar Mounir said on Facebook on Sunday. He added that it was not immediately clear if the prosecution will appeal the court decision or not.
