Zambia claimed a narrow 2-1 win at home over GuineaBissau in the 2019 Nations Cup qualifiers on Wednesday. Stophira Sunzu opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute, while Justin Shonga added the second seven minutes after the break. Frederic Mendy scored the consolation goal for GuineaBissau with nine minutes remaining. Following the win, the Zambian team has advanced to second place in the Group K with four points, behind leaders Mozambique, who will host Namibia on Saturday. In group F, Ethiopia were held to a goalless draw at home by Kenya to keep their place as second of Group F with four points. The fate of the other tie in the group between Ghana and Sierra Leone set to be played on Thursday would be decided on November. A FIFA ban on Sierra Leone, put in place because of alleged government interference in the running of the football association, means Sierra Leone are not allowed to play their scheduled Group F matches against Ghana in Kumasi on Thursday and then again in Freetown on Monday.
