Holders Wydad Casablanca of Morocco were ousted from the African Champions League quarter-finals after missing a plethora of goal-scoring chances in a 0-0 draw at home to Algeria's ES Setif on Friday. Aiming to protect a slender 1-0 first-leg advantage, Setif produced a backs-to-the-wall performance but they were still fortunate not to concede as Wydad slice open their backline almost at will. The Moroccans, who defeated record winners Ahly of Egypt in last year's final, were guilty of some glaring misses, especially in the second half. The main culprit was Liberian forward William Jebbour, who could not beat Setif keeper Moustapha Zeghba in a one-on-one and failed to convert a cross from close range with the goal at his mercy. Zeghba was in an inspired form, pulling off a string of impressive saves and throwing himself at the feet of Wydad's forwards to keep them at the bay, much to the frustration of an enthusiastic home crowd. Setif breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle, with their time-wasting tactics proving efficient as they continued their bid towards a third Champions League title and their first since 2014. They will face the winners of Saturday's quarter-final clash between eight-time winners Ahly and Guinea's unfancied outfit Horoya AC.
