The Egyptian national team returned to Cairo on Tuesday morning after ending a dismal World Cup campaign in Russia where they suffered three defeats. The Pharaohs received a lukewarm reception at the Cairo airport, having failed to claim their first-ever World Cup victory after conceding a last-gasp goal in a bitter 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in Volgograd on Monday. Egypt finished at the bottom of Group A with no points after also losing 1-0 to Uruguay and 3-1 to hosts Russia. Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was among the Egyptian players who returned home while five other players, including Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, stayed behind.
