Egyptian club Ahly have appointed Mohamed Youssef as the new assistant manager of the team pending the hiring of a foreign manager to succeed departing manager Hossam El-Badry. Alongside Youssef, Samy Qomsan has been also named as a trainer and Samir Adly as administrative manager. The former Ahly defender Youssef, 48, started his coaching career at Ahly in 2009 as an assistant coach, before managing the team in 2013 and leading them to win the 2013 African Champions League and 2014 CAF Super Cup. Youssef has also coached other Egyptian clubs Smouha and Ittihad El-Shorta, with his last experience at Petrojet. Ahly wrapped up this season under El-Badry's helm with a third straight Egyptian Premier League title, their 40th overall, with six matches to spare. However, a string of poor results towards the end of the season saw them exit the Egypt Cup and make a disappointing start to their African Champions League group-stage campaign. The eight-time African champions were held to a goalless draw at home to Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis, before losing to Kampala 2-0 and falling to the bottom of Group A with only one point from their opening two matches. This prompted El-Badry to abruptly step down despite his recent achievements with the club.
