Swiss coach Christian Gross has arrived in Cairo to finalise his deal with Cairo giants Zamalek, the club's president Mortada Mansour announced during a press conference on Saturday. "Gross will be in charge of the team alongside four assistants," Mansour said. "The Swiss coach will receive €2 million, while his assistants will be paid 300,000." "I will hold a meeting with the new coach tonight, and I will hold a press conference to introduce the technical staff," Mansour said. Gross, who managed English side Tottenham Hotspur in the late 1990s, will succeed sacked coach Ehab Galal, who was dismissed after a string of poor results that included a shock exit from the African Confederation Cup at the first hurdle after a shootout defeat to Ethiopia's Wolaitta Dicha. The 63-year-old Gross is expected to take charge of the team at the end of the season, with caretaker coach Khaled Galal currently leading the team in the Egypt Cup. Gross has won two Swiss league titles with Grasshopper, four with Basel and a Saudi league crown with Al-Ahly. Zamalek ended the Egyptian Premier League at fourth place with 61 points, 24 behind champions and arch rivals Ahly. Under temporary coach Khaled Galal, Zamalek has reached the Egypt Cup semi final, where they will take on Ismaily on 7 May.
