Elizabeth Taylor and Angelina Jolie jewellery auctioned
Charitable organisations Tuesday shone like gems as a Sotheby's auctioned off a set of Angelina Jolie's earrings and Christie's started their 4-day Elizabeth Taylor auction

Sotheby's ran a Qatari foundation auction that saw one of Angelina Jolie's earrings auctioned off; meanwhile, Christies has started day one of the highly-anticipated Elizabeth Taylor auction, the proceeds of which will go to her charity.
Angeline Jolie's earrings surely fetched a handsome price on Tuesday's Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) gala and charity auction in Doha, Qatar, which in total garnered seven million dollars. Contrary to expectations, Jolie was not present. Notably, however, the citrine earrings she donated were part of her personal collection and her first prototypes in the Style of Jolie collection.
Also on auction was one of only 66 of these German sports cars to be made: the Porsche Panamera 4S Middle East Edition.
Likewise, Tuesday saw the start of the Elizabeth Taylor auction, which has already broken seven world auction records. One of the most historic items sold was the 16th century pearl La Peregrina at $11,842,500.
The pearl was a gift from Richard Burton in 1969, which he bought at $37,000 in an auction. Discovered in the 1500s in the Gulf of Panama it became part of the crown jewels of Spain and ranks as one of the most important historic pearls in the world.
Elizabeth Taylor and Al Durante of Cartier designed a ruby-and-diamond-studded necklace to highlight “the most perfect pearl in the world,” as she said.
Wednesday iconic possessions and her haute couture goes for auction. Tomorrow will see what they call simply “fashion and accessories” and lastly and to close the auction with a bang: 16 December will auction off Elizabeth Taylor's art and film memorabilia.
