Zamalek claimed their fourth consecutive win after defeating Petrojet 3-1 at Suez stadium on Monday as they aim for a second-place finish this season. Midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz converted a penalty in the 11th minute to open the scoring for the visitors, while Congolese striker Kabongo Kasongo scored twice in the 26th and 30th minutes respectively to take his tally with Zamalek to seven league goals. Meanwhile, substitute Mohamed Shahin scored the consolation goal for the hosts four minutes from time. Monday's win helped the White Knights advance to third place in the league table with 45 points, just one point behind second-place Ismaily who have one match in hand. After effectively losing the chance to win the league title, Zamalek are hoping to finish the season in second-place to secure a Champions League berth. Ahly are at the top of the league table with 63 points and close to winning the 40th league title in their history. Zamalek who enjoyed a last-gasp win over Wadi Degla last week, started the game on style. They gained an early penalty when Petrojet defender Sameh Abdel-Fadil touched the ball with his hand inside the area. Newly signed midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz converted the penalty to score his maiden goal with the club. The White Knights maintained their pressure and the Congolese striker doubled the score in the 26th minute when he received a nice cross from winger Abdallah Gomaa, allowing him to score easily with his right foot. Four minutes later Kasongo scored his second goal and the third for his side when he met a nice pass from winger Mohamed Antar to score in an empty net. The Petrojet coach introduced Moroccan playmaker Omar Najdi in the 31st minute in order to rescue his side, but he failed to make his presence felt during the rest of the first-half. The second half seemed an eventless affair early after the break, with Zamalek dominating the game in term of possession, while Petrojet tried several counter-attacks without posing a real threat. With four minutes remaining a defensive lapse allowed Petrojet's substitute striker Mohamed Shahin to score the consolation goal for his side. Zamalek will face Nasr on Thursday, while the Petroleum side will have a tough mission against Talae El-Geish in Cairo on Friday.
