Egypt sponsors South Sudan's SPLM Declaration of Unification in Cairo

Egypt has sponsored on Thursday the signing of a declaration of unification between two factions of the South Sudan,s People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) at the Egyptian Intelligence's headquarters in Cairo under the auspices of President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi and President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni.
The declaration supports peace efforts to end the dispute between the rival factions, and stipulates the return of all displaced people and refugees to their home regions in the country.
The parties also agreed that the Egyptian General Intelligence Service would coordinate with the signatory parties and follow up on the implementation of the agreement.
The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) is a political party in South Sudan initially founded as the political wing of the Sudan People's Liberation Army.
As a result of the South Sudanese Civil War in 2013-2014, the SPLM split into the SPLM-Juba, led by President Salva Kiir, and SPLM-IO (in opposition), led by former Vice President Riek Machar.
South Sudan gained its independence from the Republic of the Sudan via referendum in 2011 following several years of conflict.
