The dates of Egypt Cup round of 16 matches were announced by Egyptian Football Association (EFA) on Tuesday and Zamalek will be facing Haras El-Hodoud on 7 December, but the date of the tie between holders Ahly and Dakhlya is yet to be decided. Zamalek reached the round of 16 after beating lower-tier Minya 1-0 in the round of 32 on 9 November, while Ahly cruised to an easy 5-0 victory over lower-tier Beni Suef's Telephones a day later to reach the last 16. Ahly won the last edition of the Egypt Cup after beating Masry 2-1, while Zamalek were eliminated from the semifinal after losing 2-0 to the Port Said-based Masry. Zamalek currently lie at third place on the Egyptian league table with 15 points after eight matches, two behind leaders Ismaily, who played one match less. Ahly comes 14th with seven points after playing only three matches due to continental commitments.
