Five people were killed and at least 60 others injured when two buses collided on a highway just outside the city of Suez, state new agency MENA and Al-Ahram Arabic website reported. Eyewitnesses said one bus, which was travelling on the highway to the Red Sea resort city of Ain El-Sokhna, suddenly swerved, colliding into another bus travelling in the opposite direction. Five people were killed and at least 60 others injured, provincal health ministry official Mohamed Saad Ghazal told Al-Ahram. The identities of the deceased have not yet been establsihed. Twenty-five ambulances were rushed to the scene of the crash, according to Mohamed Gad, Suez's security chief. Deadly road accidents take place on a near-daily basis in Egypt, which is notorious for poor road safety conditions, badly maintained infrastructure and loosely enforced traffic regulations. In 2015, the country saw 25,500 road fatalities, while the total number of car accidents was 14,500, according to a study published by the official statistics body CAPMAS in August 2016. In one of the deadliest transport accidents in recent years, 42 people were killed and dozens others injured last week when two trains collided near Alexandria.
