Six people were killed and 20 others injured on Friday when a bus collided with a truck on a major highway connecting the capital Cairo with the North Coast, Egypt's state news agency MENA said. The accident occurred on the Al-Alamein-Wadi Al-Natroun road, northwest of Cairo. The bus was carrying Cairenes to the coast. Friday's accident is the latest in a series of crashes that occurred on the same road this summer, which is a main route to the coast for holidaymakers from the capital. Nineteen ambulances were deployed to the crash site, the head of Egypt's ambulance authority, Ahmed El-Ansary, said. Ten of those injured were allowed to leave hospital after their condition improved. Deadly road crashes take place on a near daily basis in Egypt, which is notorious for poor road safety, badly maintained infrastructure, and loosely enforced traffic regulations. In 2015, the country saw 25,500 road fatalities, while the total number of car accidents was 14,500, according to a study published by the official statistics body CAPMAS in August 2016.
