PROGRAMME: Ramadan at El Genaina Theatre, from Egypt to Africa

The 12th edition of El-Genaina Company's annual Hayy Festival is scheduled to start on 4 June and will run until 14 June at the open-air El-Genaina Theatre inside Al-Azhar Park.
All concerts begin at 9.30pm.
Sunday 4 June
Opening Act: Dokkan
Dokkan is an Egyptian instrumental band, active in the scene since 2015. They braid contemporary music with traditional Egyptian tunes. Dokkan is currently working on their first album.
Followed by Nasser El Mezdawi
Libyan musician Nasser El Mezdawi is fuses Berber, Arab, African and popular European music. His popularity sprang in the mid 1970s, and he continued to influence the Arab music scene by composing for pop artists like Amr Diab.
Tuesday 6 June
Opening Act: Looperia
Through exploration of rhythms and music, Looperia provides a Sufi experience with themes evolving about divine love, peace, love and Africa, the mother of all.
Followed by Sidi Bemole
Sidi Bemole is an Algerian composer and singer whose popularity allowed him to tour for 20 years and release, many albums including his last one titled l'Oddysee de Fulay. His experience touches on many genres, from pop, blues and rock, to berber abd even Celtic cultures.
Sunday 11 June
Opening Act: Shahira Kamal's Band
Founded in 2016, Shahira's Band performs Arabic songs with a diverse set of styles. Shahira's lyrics always relate to personal experiences, social issues and philosophical paradoxes.
Followed by Haydar Hamdi
Tunisian musician Haydar incorporates themes of social issues, love and economic pressures into his groovy sound. In 2012 he moved to Paris and released the album 404, and in 2015 released FIKRA.
Wednesday 14 June
Opening Act: Aqsa Al Wasat
Formed in 2013, Aqsa Al Wasat is an experimental jazz band that creates a fusion of various sounds in their music. The band'sd line-up includes Amr Ezz, Tuqa McAwi, and Bichoy Nessim
Followed by Malika Zarra
Malika Zarra takes the listeners to the world of soul, jazz and North African tunes as she sings in four languages: Berber, Moroccan Arabic, English and French. According to CNN's “African Voices” program, “Malika Zarra is defining the term fusion and is adding her unique sound to the world”.
