Squash: Shabana and Darwish reach Honk Kong quarters Amr Shabana and Karim Darwish march on in Honk Kong Open while Mohamed El-Shorbagy, Hisham Ashour and Tarek Momen bow out
Egyptian champions Karim Darwish and Amr Shabana have prevailed in their 1/8 ties to beat compatriots Tarek Momen 3-1 and Hisham Ashour 3-0 respectively on Thursday. Darwish, who dropped three places to number six in this month PSA world ranking, defeated Momen in 41 minutes 11/3, 11/2, 5/11 and 11/7 while Shabana was faster against Hisham Ashour as he beat him 11/5, 11/7 and 12/10 in 31 minutes. Elsewhere, in-form Mohamed El-Shorbagy conceded a stunning defeat against Mohd Azlan Iskandar from Malaysia 3-1, (6/11, 11/6, 14/12 and 11/7). Omar Mossaad also lost to Frenchman Gregory Gaultier 3-1 (11/6, 4/11, 11/4 and 11/6) who has been in an outstanding performance this year. Gaultier, who will turn 29 next month, will face world number one Nick Matthew from England in the quarters in a replay of the final of the World Championship Open. Darwish will play Stewart Boswell and Shabana will be tested by Iskandar.
