Activist and critic of the ruling military council to be detained for at least another 15 days while the retrial of Maikel Nabil has been postponed for a second time Egypt's military prosecution Sunday ordered the renewal of prominent activist Alaa Abd El-Fattah's detention for another 15 days pending investigation into charges of inciting violence and assaulting military personnel during the Maspero clashes of 9 October. As well as ruling the detention renewal, the military judge appeared to drop the charge of stealing army weapons from Abd El-Fattah's case. The military prosecutor, however, revealed that the charge remains and that the judge had, in fact, forgotten to turn the charge sheet to read out the full list against Abd El-Fattah. Abd El-Fattah maintained his objection to the military investigating the Maspero clashes by refusing to respond to the prosecution's questioning. The Army has been identified by eye witnesses and video footage from the bloody night as perpetrators of violence in Maspero. In related news, the retrial of blogger Maikel Nabil has been postponed to 27 November. Nabil was sentenced by a military court in April 2011 to three years for defaming the Egyptian Army after writing a blog post entitled "The Army and the people were never one hand." Nabil has now been staging a hunger strike for 82 days against his conviction. Another court session Sunday saw the acquittal of eleven protesters who were detained by military forces on 30 Septmeber for protesting outside the Ministry of Defence headquarters.
