Squash: Ups and downs in April rankings, Egypt's Mohamed Elshorbagy at lowest position since 2014
Published in Ahram Online on 02 - 04 - 2017

Egyptian squash star and long-time world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy has fallen to number three in April's PSA World Rankings after failing to win a major title in months, while his younger brother Marwan has moved into the world's top five for the first time in his career.
The top position in the PSA rankings was snatched this month by Frenchman Gregory Gaultier.
ElShorbagy was the third Egyptian player ever to spend a whole year at the top of the World Rankings after he maintained poll position in December 2016.
However, due to his absence from the podium over the past three months, the Egyptian star now sits at his lowest position since September 2014.
ElShorbagy, who won the British Open in 2015 and 2016, lost 3-1 to Englishman Nick Matthew in the semi-final contests of the 2017 edition, thereby slipping from the world number-one spot.
Marwan Elshorbagy, meanwhile, moved into the world's top five for the first time in his career after reaching the final of the Windy City Open last month.
Egyptian Ali Farag moved up two places to world number six, with his fellow countryman Ramy Ashour, who topped the rankings for the entirety of 2013, sitting at number eight. Fares Dessouky has moved to number nine, marking the first time he has reached the world's top 10.
Women's world champion Nour El-Sherbini, settled firmly into the driving seat at the PSA Women's World Rankings for April, despite losing to Laura Massaro in the semi-finals of the sport's longest-running tournament, the British Open.
England's Massaro moved back into the world's top two for the first time since November 2016 after becoming the first Englishwoman since Janet Morgan in 1951 to lift the iconic Allam British Open title for a second time when she triumphed in an all-English final with Sarah-Jane Perry in Hull last weekend.
