Hungarian tourists killed in Hurghada bus accident Eleven Hungarian tourists are killed after the bus they are travelling on overturns on way to Hurghada Airport
A deadly bus accident in the Egyptian coastal city of Hurghada on Sunday evening left 11 Hungarian tourists dead and at least 30 injured. Authorities say the bus flipped over after the driver took a sharp turn while en route to Hurghada Airport, where the tourists had been supposed to board a plane back to Hungary at 9:30pm. Four tourists who were critically injured in the accident were reportedly transferred to Cairo via military airplanes to receive specialized medical treatment, as hospitals in Hurghada were overwhelmed following the accident. Hurghada authorities are reportedly coordinating with Hungarian embassy officials for the victims' bodies to be repatriated to Hungary. Red Sea Governor Mahmoud Assem has ordered that managers of the bus company be summoned for questioning. Assem also announced that five of the tourists who had been slightly injured in the accident had completely recovered and were currently lodged at a hotel in Hurghada awaiting their return to Hungary. An official investigation of the accident is currently underway. The bus driver, who himself suffered injuries, was questioned at the hospital. Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has reportedly sent his condolences to the Hungarian government.
