Art Alert: Screening of 'Rome, Open City' at Cairo's ADEF

Cairo's ADEF DECA will screen Roberto Rossellini's film Rome, Open City (1945) on Tuesday 7 March.
The film, shot in 1944, takes audiences to Rome at the end of World War II to expose the traumatic effect that war leaves upon residents and cities. This is the focus of the film, rather than the war itself.
The movie was filmed on a low budget, and declared one of the most effective movies in cinematic history for its commitment to realism and to portraying the actual settings affected by the war.
Starring Aldo Fabrizi, Anna Magnani, and Marcello Pagliero, the 105-minute movie was awarded Cannes' Grand Prize (1946) and was nominated to the 19th Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay (1947).
