Highlights of Oscars fashion: Soft grace and lots of lace
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 02 - 2017

The Oscars never fail to attract the attention of fashionistas and beauty seekers from all over the world. Hollywood's divas look their best, gracing the red carpet in an array of designs guaranteed to set trends in Haute couture for the year to come.
Dreamy lace
Bold choices were downplayed this year in favor of soft and dreamy designs and garments. Lace, with its timeless appeal, was donned by many.
Ruth Negga stood out in turtle-necked red by Valentino; Ginnifer Goodwin dazzled in Zuhair Murad; while Alicia Vikander was fabulous in a black lace dress by Louis Vuitton. Georgina Chapman wore Marchesa.

Fringes prevail
Rich, yet dreamy fringes took hold of the red carpet with celebrities cementing the choice as an upcoming trend in couture. The golden La La Land girl Emma Stone chose a beautiful fringed number by Givenchy that proved nothing goes better with a golden statue than a beautiful dress. Others, like Hally Berry in Versace and Olivia Culpo in Marchesa, also featured fringed designs.

Sequined metallic gowns
Many beauties opted for metallic designs in a variety of shades, including Sofia Boutella who shimmered in Chanel, Teresa Palmer in Prada and Octavia Spencer in Marchesa.

Classic black and white
Angelic white with sleek silhouettes was chosen by many designers. Isabelle Huppert dazzled in Armani Prive, Karlie Kloss in simple Stella McCartney, and Naomi Harris in Calvin Klein.
Royal Black as usual was present, chosen by Kirsten Dunst -- a portrait of elegance in a black Dior -- Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen and Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton.

Golden and powder champagne
Pale tones of champagne as well as darker golden hues were common choices on the red carpet. As usual, Nicole Kidman was glamorous in Armani Prive, Felicity Jones and Charlize Theron in Dior, while Dakota Johnson stood fashion-forward in Gucci.
