Highlights of the stars' fashion trends at the Oscars
As usual, the red carpet glowed with fashion choices to make the headlines of trends months to come.

The fashion world is on alert this time of the year with millions anticipating the new chic and classic trends in the dresses, jewelry and footwear that appear on the red carpet. The Oscars never fail to attract the attention of fashionistas and beauty seekers from all over the world. Most of the attendants look their best, never the less many come under scrutiny for making choices from a “wardrobe malfunction” to looking utterly disastrous. Some previous years were blurry in terms of the fashion and style outlines that were displayed, but that was unlike this year's choices, which could be pinpointed as follows:
1-Ladies in black
A popular elegant and figure-flattering choice most of the years, black was the choice for many ladies. Valentino's black dress on Olivia Wilde flattered her baby bump. Elsa Kendrick, Glenn Close and Charlize Theron dazzled in sleek Dior. Black also was the choice of Anne Hathaway, and Emma Watson, who blossomed into a fashion force, but with a shimmering touch. Opting for dark blue were Amy Adams in Gucci, and former winner Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen. Legendary Meryl Streep kept an elegant look by mixing black and white in simple Lanvin.

2-The domination of pale and nude shades
Although the days prior to the ceremony were rainy and muddy causing some concern, most of the stars donned pale and nude dresses that dragged behind them on the red carpet. Those included Kate Hudson and her mother Goldie Hawn, both in Versace, Jessica Biel in nude Chanel, Jada Pinkett Smith in powder pink Versace, which was the same shade worn by both Camilla Alves and Penelope Cruz. Even the ever-shocking Lady Gaga chose to appear in a quiet paler shade. Angelina Jolie wore a shimmering number by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, while Cate Blanchett dazzled in Armani. Jennifer garner and Naomi Watts also wore nude and pale shades which seemed to scatter all over the way to the ceremony hall.

3-Male choices
Black tuxedoes were the prevailing item among men with some exceptions like those who chose a navy blue Burberry, while some male stars drew attention with their choice of colour: Matthew Mcconaughey and Jared Leto – both of whom walked away with an Oscar – and Johnny Weir donned white tuxedos.

4-Plunging necklines
A common choice of long dresses with a plunging neckline was obvious also this year in the choices of Julia Roberts' black Givenchy, Charlize Theron, and Kate Husdon who all wore dresses with notably low cleavage line. The same style adorned Lupita Nyong'o's powder blue Prada dress, which was by far one of the most beautiful dresses that made an appearance that night.

5-Wardrobe malfunctions
Every Oscar night unexpectedly, Lady Gaga did not send shock waves all over the world by her choice of dress this year, but others did fail to get the thumbs up. Singer Pharell Williams wore a tuxedo with shorts, while Elsa Pataky chose a beaded dress that did not flatter her pregnant bump. Also, the black Givenchy dress chosen by Julia Roberts did not go well with the spectators due to its bizarre looking collar. Neither did the pale dress worn by Julie Delpy designed by Jenny Packham, which gave her a ghostly look.
