Cameroon's head coach Hugo Broos has praised the performance of Senegal after Cameroon's 5-4 win on penalties in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations on Saturday. "Today is a great day for my team. Not many people gave us the chance to reach the semi-finals. We played against a strong Senegal team," Broos told the post game's press conference. "We fought very hard and resisted several attacks by the opponent," the Cameroon coach added. Senegal's Sadio Mane missed the vital spot-kick in a shoot-out, while Cameroon produced a smash-and-grab performance to win 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 score in their African Nations Cup quarter-final on Saturday. The pulsating match produced a host of chances, mostly for a dominant Senegal, but no goals, as a combination of poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping meant the tie had to be decided by a shoot-out. "Luck was on our side too. I congratulate my very young team. They really deserve to be in the semis," Hugo Broos said. "Fourteen of my team are playing in the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time and our ambition has always been to go far. "The most important element was playing as a team on the field. In that sense, you cannot say a particular player was better than the other. "And we needed that kind of performance against an opponent like Senegal and the players did that fantastically," the Cameroon tactician concluded. Cameroon will play the winners of Sunday's third quarter-final between Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana in the next round in Franceville on Thursday.
