The American University in Cairo's English & Comparative Literature Department will host the Edward Said Memorial Lecture titled 'American Orientalism After Edward Said', tomorrow, Monday, 1 November. The lecture will be given by John Carlos Rowe, Associates Professor in Humanities and Chair of the Department of American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California Edward Wadie Said was an influential Palestinian-American author who delved into orientalism in relation to colonialism, which he saw as having greatly influenced the Middle East. His famous book, Orientalism, catapulted him into the spotlight. Said died in 2003 after a long battle against Leukemia.
